Police in Surrey are investigating a shooting near Fleetwood Park that left an 18-year-old man injured on July 5.

It happened at 5:50 p.m., in the 15800-block of 80 Avenue.

“The apparent victim fled the scene in a vehicle was located in the 14800 block of Fraser Highway,” Staff Sgt. Tyner Gillies said. “The victim was determined to have a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, and has been transported to a local area hospital.”

Gillies said police believe the shooting was targeted.

“The victim is well-known to police, and is believed to be involved in the drug trade.”

Police ask anyone with information, including dash cam footage, in the area of Fleetwood Park in the 15800-block of 80 Avenue to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 2023-11367.

Sgt. Tammy Lobb said as many as three vehicles were involved in an exchange of gunfire before taking off. Police found one – a black Nissan Altima – at Fraser Highway and 148 Street, arrested three men and a fourth was sent to hospital.

“As the investigation unfolded, officers tracked down a second suspect vehicle, a white Tesla and a 16-year-old male was detained. The investigation is continuing and no charges have currently been laid,” she said, adding that police are also searching for a black Honda Civic.

“This shooting between vehicles occurred early on a summer evening right near a busy park in our community,” Lobb noted. “Those involved in this type of violence show a complete disregard for others, and our investigators are working hard to piece together the events that unfolded on our streets through a thorough review of all the evidence.”
