Two men connected to B.C.’s ongoing gang conflict have been charged after shots were fired in Guildford on Dec. 29.
Police say officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of 101 Avenue and 156 Street at 2:15 p.m. Two men took off in a blue Range Rover and the Surrey RCMP says while police were trying to stop the vehicle, one of the suspects allegedly pointed a firearm at an officer.
The suspects were tracked down and arrested in the area of 198 Street and 57 Avenue in Langley, with the help of Surrey Traffic Services, Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services, Air 1 and The Langley RCMP.
Roman Arinder Gill, 24, has been charged with discharge firearm, assault police officer with a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Shaun Narinder Gill, 28, has been charged with flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Both men are known to police and have connections to the B.C. gang conflict, police say.
“Thankfully no one was injured during this brazen incident,” said Staff Sergeant Ian MacLellan of the Surrey RCMP General Investigation Unit. “We understand shootings put the community on edge and we too find this level of violence to be unnerving.”
Meanwhile, the Surrey RCMP is investigating another shooting that happened just hours after shots were fired in Guildford.
Police were called to Fleetwood, in the 7800-block of 167 Street, Dec. 29, around 9:30 p.m., for reports of shots fired. Officers found evidence “to support a shooting having occurred in the area.”
No one was injured during the incident, RCMP say.
Police are also looking for witnesses and camera footage after a report of shots fired at a home in the 14900-block of 80 Avenue just after 8 a.m. Dec. 27.
No one was injured but the residence involved sustained damage consistent with bullet holes.
