Shots fired at Newton business overnight, police say

The Surrey RCMP is investigating after shots were fired at a business in Newton early Thursday (Nov. 23).

No injuries were reported, as the business was closed at the time, police say.

Surrey RCMP responded to a call at 2:07 a.m. of a suspected shooting at a business in the 8100 block of 123 Street in Surrey.

When Mounties arrived, they found “evidence consistent with a shooting,” the RCMP release noted.

Police believe the shooting was targeted.

This is the second incident in the same complex this week.

On Wednesday (Nov. 22), at approximately 11:08 a.m., the Surrey RCMP received a report of an armed robbery at a business located in the 8100-block of 128 Street.

At this time, police believe there is no connection between the two incidents.

“We are aware that two recent incidents within the same complex raises concerns in our community,” says, Surrey RCMP Media Relations Officer, Cpl. Vanessa Munn stated in a news release. “Our South Community Response Unit has been engaged, will be increasing patrols in the area as well as meeting with local businesses to discuss their concerns.”
