A 47-year-old man faces four charges after he allegedly led Surrey RCMP on a 15 km chase that led all the way to a Langley mall parking lot earlier this month.

Brad Donald Parisian has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, possession of a forged document, and failing to comply with an order.

He remains in custody while awaiting his next court appearance, said Cpl. James Mason of the Surrey RCMP. Persons charged with a criminal offence are considered not guilty until the charges are proven in court.

The incident began just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3 when officers were alerted to an erratic driver in the 13900 block of Fraser Highway near Surrey Memorial Hospital.

The RCMP Air 1 helicopter followed the silver Mercedes SUV, and police attempted to pull it over.

Mason said the driver did not stop, and continued to drive recklessly, even after police vehicles had disengaged from following him.

Police in B.C. rarely actively pursue fleeing vehicles, as the risk of causing a crash is considered too great.

The SUV kept heading east, eventually stopping in the parking lot at the Willowbrook Shopping Centre, where it was surrounded by Langley RCMP. The driver had gone into the mall, but police tracked and arrested him.

A female passenger was also arrested at the scene, but she was later released without any charges.

“Dangerous driving puts the public and everyone else on the road at risk, said Mason. “We are thankful for the collective efforts of all officers which led to this timely arrest.”
