Editor:

Last night I attended the GED graduation for Invergarry and Queen Elizabeth schools at the Surrey Arts Centre in Bear Creek Park.

Around 300 young people graduated, and the air was energized with joy, accomplishment, and love. It was a wonderful evening, however, something bothered me.

Even though many of these students attended their schools for years, when it came time to sing Canada's anthem, hardly anyone sang. Did they not know the words? Canada has been so gracious, inviting so many people to her shores, but why were so few singing? An anthem and a flag are meant to unite people. Are the schools not teaching the anthem? I don't know. I wonder why the grads weren't singing.
