A Surrey resident is among the 12 houseguests on the coming season of Big Brother Canada.

Matthew Wong, 27, is kinesiologist who describes himself as “a character, well-rounded, diverse, and unique” in a bio on the show’s website.

Season 12 of the reality-TV contest airs on the Global network starting Tuesday, March 5, with two “mystery all-stars” also in the mix.

“My strategy going into the house is to stay true to my character and morals to the best of my ability,” Wong says on bigbrothercanada.ca, which includes a video interview.

“I want to remember that it is a game with money on the line and I’ll do whatever I have to do to win. I am physically, intellectually and mentally strong. I am more than what meets the eye.”

Wong and the others are competing for the grand prize of more than $200,000 in prizes including $100,000 cash, $10,000 from Tonybet, $10,000 from Philips Sonicare Oral Care, a year of Skip delivery, new clothes from Winners, a $10,000 Samsung Galaxy prize pack, a Cuban beach vacation with Sunwing and a new Infiniti QX60 SUV.

Asked what he’d buy first with the prize money, Wong replied, “My sister would say I’m getting her Taylor Swift tickets, but most likely my first purchase will be AYCE (all you can eat) sushi and something special for my mom.”

He said he wants Canadians to know the last name Wong.

“My Tukai (grandpa) sailed on a cargo ship from Fiji to New Westminster, B.C., with next to nothing and went back to bring over many members of our family so that we could have a better life. It’s my time to carry the torch, to make a better life for my family and to make them proud. #WONGStrong.”

His hidden talent is karaoke singing skills, Wong says, and his celebrity crush is Lauren London. He’s most proud of “digging myself out of a hole when I was at my lowest point.”
