While the new “Mean Girls” movie is based on the Broadway musical of 2018, that stage version is coming to Vancouver for a short run this month.

Broadway Across Canada brings the high school comedy to Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre from Tuesday, Jan. 23 until Sunday, Jan. 28.

The show is a hot ticket right now on ticketmaster.ca.

The “Mean Girls” stage musical is adapted from the hit Paramount Pictures film of 2004, starring Lindsay Lohan and co-written by Tina Fey.

• REVIEW: Mean Girls still trying to make fetch happen, this time with music.

You know the story: Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the vicious ways of her strange new home, suburban Illinois.

Cady is a hit with the Plastics, an A-list girl clique at her new school, when she makes the mistake of falling for Aaron Samuels, the ex-boyfriend of alpha Plastic Regina George. And when Cady devises a plan to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung.

Songs from the musical are heard on a new “Mean Girls” movie soundtrack that includes “World Burn,” sung by Reneé Rapp (as Regina George) and the cast. Rapp will perform on the Jan. 20 episode of “Saturday Night Live” with Jacob Elordi as the host.
