‘Tis the season to plan a sustainable farewell to live Christmas trees – and perhaps help a cause along the way.
At least three tree-chipping events are planned on the Semiahmoo Peninsula.
One is a two-day affair organized by folks who have big plans for the Little Campbell Hatchery. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both Dec. 30 and Jan. 6, trees may be brought to the upper parking lot at 1284 184 St., where donations received will help build a new hatchery.
Hatchery officials announced the launch of a fundraising campaign in February 2023.

In a news release issued at that time, cost of the plans – which include a new building and infrastructure – was estimated at “in the $1.5 million range,” with completion anticipated by 2026.
On Jan. 7, the White Rock firefighters will continue their tree-chipping tradition, setting up once again at Centennial Area (14600 North Bluff Rd.).
Crew members will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
All donations will benefit the White Rock Firefighters Charity Association, which raises funds for local charities and the BC Professional Firefighters’ Association Burn Fund.
Journey Grad is also returning to offer tree collection and disposal, as part of fundraising efforts by members of a youth group at Peace Portal Church. Donations collected will go towards the Grade 12 students’ July 2024 grad trip.
Pick-up and drop-off options are available on Dec. 30 and 31, as well as Jan. 1, 6, 7 and 13.

Those wishing to drop off a tree may do so between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Peace Portal Alliance Church, located at the corner of 152 Street and King George Boulevard.
